      <title>Eusja PRESS TRIP 28-30 March 2012 to Saarbrücken</title>
      <description><![CDATA[<p>The Saarbrueken University in Germany is organising a press trip for science journalists with the topic: <br />"How Computer Science and Materials Science are improving the world”.</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p>Please find <span style="text-decoration: underline;"><a href="http://www.wissenschaftsjournalismus.ch/tl_files/SKWJ%20Newsletter/Saarbruecken_2012_Abstracts.pdf">here</a></span> the invitation from the University and a preliminary programm.<br />Visits foreseen at the following research institutes, among others: <br />• Saarland University<br />• Schloss Dagstuhl, Leibniz Center for Informatics<br />• Max Planck Institute for Computer Science<br />• Max Planck Institute for Software Systems<br />• German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence (DFKI)<br />The organizer will cover the accomodation and all meals, while the journalists have to take care of their traveling costs according to usual EUSJA rules. The trip is from 28 to 30 of March. The logistics and some other necessary informations will be sent later.       <title>Travel GRANTS to attend Euroscience Open Forum  ESOF2012</title>
      <description><![CDATA[<p>Created by Euroscience, ESOF – <strong>E</strong>uroscience <strong>O</strong>pen <strong>F</strong>orum  – is the biennial pan-European meeting dedicated to scientific research  and innovation. At ESOF meetings leading scientists, researchers, young  researchers, journalists, business people, entrepreneurs and  innovators, policy makers, science and technology communicators and the  general public from all over the world discuss new discoveries and  debate the direction that research is taking in the sciences, humanities  and social sciences. </p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p>Nature Publishing Group (NPG) is a publisher of  high impact scientific and medical information in print and online. En 2008 s'est ouvert le&nbsp; Artificial Organ (ARTORG) Center for Biomedical Engineering à l'Université, spécialisé dans la recherche biomédicale au service d'organes malades ou endommagés. Dix groupes de recherche sont désormais réunis sous le même toit depuis novembre 2010.       <description><![CDATA[<p>10 Years ScanBalt BioRegion - Towards a Balanced Regional Development and Smart Specialization in the Baltic Sea Region</p> <p><br />Scope: To learn about the activities, meet the actors and to experience crossborder cooperation projects in life sciences in the ScanBalt BioRegion/Northern Europe.       <title>Last chance! STUDY TRIP to the Helmholtz Research Centres, Germany</title>
      <description><![CDATA[<p>The Helmholtz Association is organising a study-trip for&nbsp;<strong>up to 14&nbsp;</strong>EUSJA journalists (among which are journalists from the Swiss association for science journalism) to selected Helmholtz Research Centres in Germany. The trip will take five days: from September 18th until September 23rd. The thematic focus of the study-trip is&nbsp;<strong>“Health Research in the Helmholtz Association”</strong>. Participants will visit different research facilities (start in&nbsp;Munich, then Berlin, Bonn, Braunschweig, Leipzig and finally Heidelberg) and speak to scientists about their work.</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p>The Helmholtz Association will arrange and bear the expenses for transfer inside Germany, accommodation and meals during the journalists’ stay in Germany. Participating journalists will be responsible for arranging their transport to and from Germany.</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p>Detailed information about transfer from the airport or train station to the hotel as well as names of hotels and restaurants will be provided at a later stage.       <title>FREE PRESS TRIP TO UPPSALA</title>
      <description><![CDATA[<p>SFVJ – the Swedish association of science journalists – invites 20 science Eusja journalists (among which Swiss association for science journalism's members) to a study trip to Uppsala, Sweden, 25–27 May 2011. Uppsala is a university town situated 70 kilometers north of Stockholm (35 kilometers north of Stockholm Arlanda international airport).<br />&nbsp;<br />Normal Eusja rules apply: journalists pay for their trip. Hotel, accomodation and meals are paid by the organizers<br />&nbsp;<br />Here is a preliminary programme:<br />Wednesday 25 May<br />Afternoon. EUSJA-journalists arrive in Uppsala from Arlanda airport.<br />Welcome mingle with Swedish science journalists at restaurant and jazz club ”Katalin” in the evening (Participants will have to pay at least part of the cost themselves).<br />&nbsp;<br />Thursday 26 May<br />Visit Uppsala university,&nbsp; Ångströmlaboratoriet.<br />Visit SLU – Swedish university of agriculture.<br />Lunch and visit at SGU – the Swedish geological survey.       <title>DESERTEC: Power from the desert</title>
      <description><![CDATA[<p>Until 2050 Europe could get 20 percent of his power from the desert in Africa. First power plants are already under construction. But how the political development in the MENA states (Middle East North Africa) will influence this vision? How important will be the european initiative DESERTEC? Who will contruct the gigantic power plants and who will pay for it? What are the benefits for the MENA-states? Who is organising the technology transfer? During the international symposium "Solar Energy for Science" in Hamburg, 19.05.- 20.05.2011, many leading experts, scientists and high representatives from Jordan, Maroc, Egypt, Syria etc. will give answers to these important questions.</p> <p><br />EUSJA-members (among them Swiss members of the Swiss association for Science journalism) will have the unique possibility to join this conference and interview the most important stake holders. Eine hochrangig besetzte Jury zeichnet Arbeiten von Journalisten und Fotografen aus, die Themen mit Technikbezug originell darstellen und einen besonderen Zugang zu innovativen Technologien eröffnen. Neben Auszeichnungen für das beste Einzelfoto, die herausragende Fotoserie und exzellente Beiträge in den Sparten Tageszeitung und Magazin lobt die Akademie erstmals auch ein Fotostipendium für eine Technikreportage aus. Die Preise und das Stipendium sind mit jeweils 5.000 Euro dotiert.       <title>NEW in science communication</title>
      <description><![CDATA[<p>Scientific research impacts society in many different ways.&nbsp; Agora aims to intensify&nbsp; the dialogue between science and society by enabling researchers to communicate with the public and pass on their knowledge. </p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p>Under Agora, researchers from all disciplines can submit applications for public science communication projects.&nbsp; These projects can take the form of events, debates, exhibitions, films, books or works of art. To view some examples, click on the link below.</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p>Researchers based in Switzerland as well as researchers working abroad under an SNSF fellowship are eligible to participate.
